Welcome to the Greenfield Police Department

Fireworks laws in Wisconsin can be confusing. With all of the fireworks stands and retail stores, many people assume that fireworks are legal to possess and use. Aside from safety hazards associated with fireworks and the thousands of injuries each year, Greenfield residents should be aware of the laws pertaining to the possession and use of fireworks in Greenfield.

Although the State law in Wisconsin can be confusing and often times ambiguous, Greenfield residents need to be aware that virtually ALL fireworks are absolutely ILLEGAL to use or possess in Greenfield.

Essentially, anything that has a flame, emits sparks or smoke, is illegal to posses or use.

Many people wonder why fireworks can be sold in certain places but not used in Greenfield.

Wisconsin laws contain a loophole that allows businesses to sell fireworks even though most fireworks are illegal for people to use. This loophole has been closed in Greenfield by an outright prohibition in the city. This prohibition removes any uncertainty and makes it clear to everyone that fireworks are illegal.

Anyone caught in possession of, or using fireworks is subject to citation and fine of up to $1,000.
