Victim Information
All Agencies in the Criminal and Juvenile Justice System will make a good faith effort to contact and assist you in
exercising your rights as a crime victim throughout the justice process. If you have questions or concerns, please use the resources listed on this page. Please notify the contact Officer of any
changes in your address or telephone number
Crime Victims and, in some instances, family members, are granted the following rights by state law:
THE RIGHT
- to receive protection from the accused throughout the justice process
- to receive information from law enforcement agencies and district attorneys as provided in SS 950.08
- to prompt return of property no longer needed by law enforcement as evidence
- to information regarding financial restitution, compensation and other services
- to a speedy disposition of the case
- to be notified of court proceedings
- to be accompanied to court proceedings
- to a separate waiting area during court proceedings
- to communicate with the Office of the District Attorney, intake worker or corporation counsel regarding possible outcomes of
court proceedings
- to provide a statement to the court at time of case disposition or parole of offender, detailing economic, psychological and
physical impact of the crime
- to receive witness fees when you are subpoenaed and appear

Arrest Information
An arrest may not be made during the initial investigation of the crime you
reported. You will be contacted when/if an arrest is made. You may contact the Officer to report additional information, ask questions, or determine the status of
your investigation. You have the right to know if the offender has been arrested and if they are still in custody. How to find this out follows:
If NO ARREST has been made and you would like to know the status of your case, please call the
Contact Officer at (414) 761-5300. This Officer is your primary source for information about the investigation, arrests and status of any of your property in police custody.
Adult Offenders
If an ADULT person has been arrested in connection with this case, you
may call the number below to find out whether the person has been released.

If the case is referred to the District Attorney's office for prosecution,
the District Attorney's office will try to contact you within eight weeks with additional information, including whether charges will be filed, your right to
attend court proceedings and to discuss the case with the prosecutor. Contact the District Attorney's office for more information about your rights.

Juvenile Offenders
If a Juvenile is taken into custody and transported to the Juvenile
Detention Center you may contact the Custody Intake Department of the Detention Center to determine if the Juvenile has been released. Release is
determined by the Intake Worker and the case is referred to Juvenile Intake.
If you do not receive information from them within two weeks, call (414)257-7834.

If a juvenile offender is identified but not taken into custody, the case will be referred to
Juvenile Intake for review. If a juvenile is referred to the District Attorney and is prosecuted, you will be contacted by the Victim Witness Unit at the Children’s Court Center
regarding your rights .

Threats or Intimidation
Please contact the Greenfield Police Department if you are subject to threats or
intimidation arising from your cooperation with law enforcement or prosecution efforts relating to investigation of any crime.

BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT THE WISCONSIN CRIME VICTIM COMPENSATION PROGRAM
Who is Eligible?
What Compensation May be Paid?
Injury or death benefit up to $40,000
Medical, pharmacy and mental health expenses
Lost wages
Loss of support to dependants of victim
Reasonable replacement cost of clothing or bedding held as evidence
Reasonable replacement value for property held as evidence or made unusable by lab testing
Reasonable costs for securing and cleaning a crime scene up to $1,000
Funeral services up to $2,000
The victim must not have caused or contributed to the crime and must cooperate with law enforcement officials to be
eligible. Other restrictions/eligibility requirements may apply.
