Officers working a special Alcohol Mobilization Patrol arrest three intoxicated driver within a 40-minute period early Sunday morning.  One of the drivers arrested was on probation for her SIXTH Drunk Driving conviction and is expected to be charged today with her SEVENTH offense.

At 2:04 AM, Sunday, March 15, 2009, officers stopped a blue Toyota Celica near 112th and Morgan Avenue and arrested the driver, a 25 year old Jackson man for 1st Offense Operating While Intoxicated.

At 2:33 AM Sunday, March 15, 2009, officers stopped a silver Chevy Blazer after the officer observed the vehicle driving the wrong way on South 27th Street (southbound in the northbound lanes).  The driver of the vehicle, a 26 year old West Allis man was arrested for 1st Offense Operating While Intoxicated.

At 2:43 AM, officers stopped a citizen reported a green Saturn driving recklessly westbound on Layton Avenue from South 27th Street.  Officers were able to stop the vehicle at South 60th Street and West Layton Avenue.  The driver of that vehicle, 39 year old George W. Mahner of Appleton was arrest for his seventh Operating While Intoxicated offense.  Mahner has a lengthy criminal record and is a felony offender, currently under parole supervision for his sixth offense operating while intoxicated from 2007.  Mahner is expected to be charged in Milwaukee County Circuit court today.

The passenger in Mahner’s vehicle, a 31 year old Neenah woman was arrested for possession of marijuana.

The officers involved were conducting an Alcohol Mobilization Patrol under a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.  The grant aims to reduce alcohol related crashes through targeted, sustained enforcement efforts.  In 2007, alcohol was listed as a contributing factor in nearly 7% of all crashes and 45% of fatal crashes.  337 people died in these crashes.
