FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GREENFIELD POLICE WITH WeTIP
The Greenfield police department announced today that they have partnered with WeTip to allow citizens to provide tips on criminal activity anonymously .
WeTip is a non-profit organization founded in 1972 that allows citizens to provide crime tips completely anonymously. The WeTip phone number, 800-78-CRIME is
known and recognized nationally. WeTip also offers 24 hour crime tip reporting through their secure website www.wetip.com.
WeTip provides live bilingual operators 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rewards of up to $1,000 are paid for information leading to the arrest and conviction of
an offender. “We’re exited about this partnership,” said Captain Paul Schlecht who commands the department’s community service initiatives. “WeTip is unique because they offer complete
anonymity and a national database of crime information.” The first words callers to WeTip hear is “do not give your name or identify yourself in any way.” WeTip is able to guarantee anonymity
because they never ask for names or identifying information. Rewards are paid through post office locations using a series of secret code words provided to the tipster.
The police department will incorporate WeTip materials and information into its crime prevention program and intends to bring WeTip initiatives into area schools
as well. WeTip offers students an opportunity to report potential school violence and school crimes anonymously and without fear of reprisal.
