Welcome to the Greenfield Police Department

Snow Emergency - 12/18/2008 to 12/19/2008

The City of Greenfield has declared a snow emergency from 11:00 PM tonight (December 18th) to 3:00 PM tomorrow (December 19th).

A Snow Emergency is declared in order to allow for the movement of emergency vehicles and snow removal equipment. The declaration of a Snow Emergency means that all major streets are off limits for parking and side streets are restricted to 'alternate side' parking until the Snow Emergency expires.

Vehicles parked on any major thoroughfare will be ticketed and towed….as will vehicles parked on side streets on the wrong side of the street.

The "major thoroughfares" described in the City ordinance are: S. 27th Street, S. 35th Street, S. 43rd Street, S. 51st Street, S. 60th Street, S. 68th Street, S. 76th Street, S. 84th Street, S. 92nd Street, S. 104th Street, S. 112th Street, S. 116th Street, S. 124th Street and W. Morgan Avenue, W. Howard Avenue, W. Coldspring Road, W. Layton Avenue, W. Edgerton Avenue, W. Grange Avenue, W. Ramsey Avenue, W. College Avenue, W. Loomis Road, W. Forest Home Avenue, W. Beloit Road, S. 31st Street between W. Edgerton Avenue and W. Grange Avenue.

Parking on any of these streets during a Snow Emergency will result in a parking citation and towing of your vehicle.

All other streets must observe "alternate side" parking. This means that the vehicle has to park on the "even side" of the street (the side of the street with even address numbers) on an even day of the month and the "odd side" of the street on an odd day of the month.

For example, today is December 18th. Vehicles on side streets during this snow emergency must be parked on the EVEN side of the street and must remain on the EVEN side until noon tomorrow. At noon tomorrow (December 19th), vehicles on side streets must be moved to the ODD side of the street until the expiration of the Snow Emergency tomorrow at 3:00 PM.
