GREENFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES NEW OFFICERS

May 1, 2008

Chief Francis Springob announces the addition of four new police officers to the Greenfield Police Department.

On May 1, 2008, City Clerk Jennifer Goergen issued the oath of office to four police officer candidates in a ceremony at the Greenfield Law Enforcement Center. “It’s fitting that these new officers were sworn in just prior to National Police Week and Police Officer Memorial Day,” Springob said.

  • Officer Richard Krueger is a graduate of Marquette University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History and a minor in Criminology and Law. He served four years in the United States Marine Corps and is a combat veteran of the Iraq War.
  • Officer Kyle Courtier attended the American Military University in West Virginia. He served eight years in the United States Marine Corps and is a combat veteran of the Iraq War.
  • Officer Tyler Jaeger is a graduate of The University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He is also a graduate of the Police Recruit Academy at the Milwaukee Area Technical College.
  • Officer Stanton Sheridan is a graduate of Marquette University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology. He comes to the Greenfield Police Department after serving as an auxiliary police officer with a neighboring suburb.

New OfficersAlso in attendance at the Oath of Office Ceremony were Alderpersons Don Almquist, Shirley Saryan and Linda Lubotsky as well as Commissioner Al Shutta of the Greenfield Police and Fire Commission.

These new officers will begin a three-week in-house-training period immediately. Officers Krueger, Courtier and Sheridan will then attend the Police Academy at Waukesha County Technical College for the next three months. All four officers will be required to complete the Greenfield Police Department’s five-month-long Field Training and Evaluation Program during which a veteran officer will train and evaluate each recruit officer on a daily basis.  “With the extensive training they receive, it takes almost a year before a new officer is actually out on the street as a fully functional member of the department,” said Captain Paul Schlecht who manages the department’s field training program.

With the addition of these four officers, the department is now two officers short of full staffing levels and anticipates two more retirements this year. Chief Springob has requested that the Police and Fire Commission begin the process of recruitment and selection to fill these existing and anticipated vacancies.
